2025-26 Dance Season Dress Code

Dance uniforms and footwear are required for level 1+ (ages 4+) classes after the first month of enrollment. Our uniforms and footwear are available at the Toronto Dancewear Boutique, located across the street from our school at 1448 Gerrard St. E. Please find below the required dancewear for each class.

A Note for Preschool-Aged Dancers

Going to dance class for young children can be as much about the outfit as it is about moving to music. For this reason, there is no mandatory uniform for our Dance With Me, Creative Movement, Mighty Movers, Sparkle Steps or Tiny Tappers classes.

Preschool children should wear comfortable, form-fitting clothing or dancewear that allows them to move freely. Leggings or shorts with a form-fitting tank top or t-shirt are acceptable and appropriate. Dancers may also wear a bodysuit (with or without tights). 

Elaborate costume pieces and oversized tutus/capes should be saved for designated “dress-up” days.

Footwear

  • Dance With Me – Bare feet or clean indoor running shoes
  • Mighty Movers – Bare feet or clean indoor running shoes

What not to wear

Hairstyles

  • All dancers with short hair (chin length or above) may wear their hair tidily combed, and are encouraged to use a hairband to keep hair off their face and neck.
  • All dancers with hair longer than chin length, regardless of gender, should adhere to the following guidelines.
    • For ballet, hair must be off both face and neck. All female-identified students ages 7+, are expected to wear a ballet bun if they have hair chin-length or longer (or comparable style such as pinned-up-braids, or a French twist) to all ballet classes. Younger recreational ballet dancers may wear a bun as well, or a ponytail/pigtails. Older male-identified ballet dancers with long hair should wear a slick low ponytail.
    • For acro and conditioning classes, hair must be off the face, and allow for the usage of the top of the head. For this reason, we do not recommend high ponytails or pigtails for acro. Instead, we encourage dancers to wear low ponytails, pigtails, buns, or braids for acro.
    • For all other styles, hair must be off the face; we suggest a ponytail.
    • For students with consecutive classes who do not have time to change hairstyles, a low, flat bun will accommodate all hair requirements, including acro and ballet.
