The Competitive Dance Program at Leslieville School of Dance & Music is designed for dedicated dancers ages 6+ who seek technical training at a higher level and numerous performance opportunities throughout the season. This program offers a challenging and rewarding dance experience for students who are committed to honing their skills and taking their dancing to the next level.

Competitive dancers at LSDM train 4-12 hours per week and participate in 3-4 competitions each season. In addition to their regular training schedule, dancers in this division have the opportunity to participate in extra group dances, solos, duets, or trios, allowing them to showcase their individual talents and collaborate with other dancers on more intimate pieces.

We are pleased to offer multiple competitive programs with varying levels of commitment:

  • Pre-Competitive Team – For students ages 8-11, this training program prepares dancers wishing to compete in the future. The pre-competitive schedule consists of four weekly classes, three of which are dedicated to our pre-comp dancers only, with the fourth being a class of their choice in their preferred style. Pre-competitive dancers at LSDM do not attend competitions but are invited to perform in our annual competitive showcase performances.
  • Part-Time Competitive Teams – this program is for students ages 6-18 and consists of 4-6 hours of weekly classes. Students in this program will be trained to compete during the upcoming season and will attend three competitions.
  • Full-Time Competitive Teams – this program is for students ages 6-18 who train for more than 6 hours per week. Our full-time competitive teams consist of 7-12 hours of weekly classes. Students in this program will be trained to compete during the upcoming season and will attend a minimum of three competitions.

Participating in competitions provides valuable performance opportunities for our students, as well as the chance to receive feedback from judges and learn from other talented industry professionals. At LSDM, we believe that competitions are not just about scores and winning trophies, but also about personal growth and development. Our dancers are encouraged to set goals for themselves and work towards achieving them, while also supporting and cheering on their fellow teammates.

In addition to the technical training in various dance styles, our Competitive Program focuses on building important skills such as teamwork, discipline, time management, and camaraderie. These qualities not only benefit our students in their dance journey but in all aspects of their lives.

At Leslieville School of Dance & Music, we strive to create a positive and supportive environment for our competitive dancers. Success as a competitive dancer not only includes strong technique and performance but also other elements such as hard work, focus, discipline, practice, and the love of dance. Our experienced and dedicated instructors provide individualized attention and guidance to each student, helping them reach their full potential both on and off the stage.
